Chicago BLACK Restaurant Week, founded in September 2015 by Lauran Smith (native Memphian, Chi-Town resident) was designed as a way to celebrate food/beverage/dessert businesses in the African American community. In honor of Dr. Carter G Woodson - Creator of Negro History Week - Chicago BLACK Restaurant Week has always fallen during the second week in February, which was when Negro History Week was created in 1926.
CBRW is the only Black Restaurant Week in Chicago, and we are proud to have partnered with large corporations, received multiple recognitions for our service to the community, and all out of the desire to see black businesses flourish and maintain longevity by garnering the support of the community! Thank you for your support over the years...we ain't goin' nowhere!
CBRW has been featured in Huffington Post Black Voices, Travel Noire, National Public Radio, Fox32Chicago, WGN Chicago, Windy City Live, Block Club Chi, ABC7Chicago, CBS, and many more! CBRW has also partnered with globally known entity UberEats in recent years.
