The history behind Chicago Black Restaurant Week

Dr Carter G. Woodson (pictured)

In case you were wondering, CBRW always falls on the 2nd week in February.

Why?

Because back in 1926, Dr. Carter G. Woodson  established "Negro History Week" as a way to celebrate the achievements of the Black Community. In an effort to honor the legacy of such a great man, Chicago BLACK Restaurant Week launched on Windy City Live during the 2nd week in February of the year 2016. This way, Dr. Carter G. Woodson will always be mentioned and remembered as the inspiration behind Chicago BLACK Restaurant Week, as we continue to celebrate the achievements of the Black Community.
